Puerta del Sol (0.3 km) – one of the most well known and busiest places in Madrid. The square contains the famous clock whose bells mark the traditional eating of the Twelve Grapes and the beginning of a new year.
El Palacio Real (0.8 km) – This Spanish royal palace began as a hunting pavilion and became an alternative residence of the kings of Spain until Alfonso XII, who died in the palace. Francisco Franco lived in the palace after the Spanish Civil War. Since Franco's death, the palace has been used as a residence for visiting heads of state.
Cathedral de la Almudena (0.8 km) – Although plans for the construction of the church began in the 16th century, the actual construction did not begin until the 1800s and was not completed until 1993. The cathedral’s interior is uniquely modern with Pop Art decor.
